The Yugioh Collectible Card Game (CCG) is a popular card game based off of
the Yugioh manga and animated television show. Players assume the roles of
dueling wizards and play different cards to summon monsters, cast spells
and use traps on their opponent.
Collectible card games work a little differently then regular card games.
In most card games, only one deck is used, and all players are dealt from
it. In CCG's, each player has their own deck. This deck is constructed by
the player from cards that they own, and all cards that the player will
use in the game are drawn from that deck. Each time a players starts a new
game, they can use a new deck.
Deck building is as important in the Yugioh CCG as is game play. Each deck
must contain between forty and sixty cards. There may be only three copies
of the same card in each deck. In tournament play, certain cards are
banned. These cards cannot be placed in any deck. The list of banned cards
is constantly updated. Good decks are important, but not as important as
good play. A good deck in the hands of a bad player is useless.
In order to win the game, you must reduce all of your opponents' life
points to zero. In most games, each player starts with 8000 life points.
You can reduce your opponents' life points by attacking them with
monsters, casting spells on them, or setting traps for them. You can also
heal your own life points using certain spells and monsters.
There are many types of spells: normal monster, fusion monster, ritual
monster, effect monster, synchro monster, token monster, spell, equip
spell, continuous spell, quick play spell, field spell and trap. To play
games well requires a knowledge of what your cards do and also a knowledge
of all of the cards your opponent might possibly play against you.
Cards can be purchased in booster packs. Each pack contains a set number
of cards. They also come in a variety of rarities. These include: common,
normal rare, rare, super rare, ultra rare, gold ultra rare, ultimate rare,
ghost rare, holographic rare, secret rare, parallel rare, short print and
super short print. Singles can also be purchased, either online or from
various stores and players. A big part of the Yugioh Collectible Card Game
is trading cards with other players.
